Horror as an art form

I can't stress enough just how quickly Malevolent went from a 'maybe I'll check it out' podcast to a 'I NEED MORE EPISODES TOMORROW' podcast for me. It took less than 24 hours for this story to grab me by the...er, eyes, and entangle my soul for the rest of foreseeable eternity. Beautifully written, stunningly acted, fantastic sound design, and breathtaking compositions, with a pilot episode and concept for conveying sensory details over audio that is like nothing else out there in the world right now. The first time I heard a character speak with that wildly unique sound-editing, I sat straight up and KNEW this was going to consume me heart and soul, and so it has. It is heartfelt and poignant and tragic and hopeful, it came along at just the moment I needed it most, and I can only hold it as high above my head as my arms will take it as a shining example of what a labor of love looks like in the horror genre. Harlan and Jo Guthrie, you are such marvels.
